Personality
For as long as anyone can remember, she has had quite the reckless streak. Some of her colleagues believe that she has a death wish. Acadia, however, knows different. She has seen things that have put her own mortality in perspective. As a result, Acadia believes in living life to its fullest, and treating every day, every drink, and every dance as if it was her last. She will rarely hold anything back.
Acadia Smith has the potential to be a loyal friend, but be careful not to get on her bad side. She will speak her mind, and tends to be a bit abrasive, leading to tension with her coworkers. However, she is very good at what she does, and that, coupled with the loyalty she has to her friends, means that she gets along well enough with her colleagues.
She has always been popular with the men, the ladies, and pretty much everyone in between. She will reciprocate affection in kind, but is by no means an "easy mark". She is fairly attractive, but tends to hide it with baggy and unflattering clothing, unless, of course, it suits her purposes not to.
She is passionate about what she does, and is extremely good at it. Further more, she knows how good she is, and can get pretty arrogant at times. Fortunately for those around her, she has been getting a handle on that particular flaw over the last few years.
She left Starfleet for her own reasons, and does not relish to opportunity to be cramped up aboard a starship again, possibly for months at a time. Quite frankly, it cramps her style, in more ways than one.
Hobbies and Interests
She loves Fencing, Gambling, and a good game of Cesa, a game of strategy practically worshipped by the inhabitants of the Goroth System. Recently she has taken up Bajoran Springball and Kick Boxing as a way to blow off steam. Acadia is proficient in hand to hand combat, and loves a good bar brawl. She is an excellent Dancer, but a lot of the time the only dance others will see from her in the aptly named "Drunken Freestyle".
History
Acadia grew up in an orphanage on Earth. Even at an early age she was possessed of what could almost be considered a compulsion to travel and explore. She read as much as she could on every subject she could think of during her free time as a child and young adult. As soon as she was eligible, she applied to Starfleet Academy and began her first semester in the fall of 2370. She Majored (and has a doctorate, as of 2380) in Theoretical Physics with a double minor in Stellar Cartography and XenoBiology. In 2373 (a year early due to taking the summer semester during all three years at the academy) she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was assigned to the Science Department on the USS Venture. The Dominion War started soon after and she was involved in some of the bloodiest fighting of the war. She did, however, earn three awards for valour and gallantry under fire. In 2375 the war ended and she served on an 18 month survey mission in the unexplored areas of the Galactic South west. Upon returning to Federation Space, she resigned her commission and continued her career as a civilian scientist. Over the next 9 years she published a number of papers, lectured several times at both Starfleet Academy and the Vulcan Academy of Sciences, and did a large amount of field work. She is now considered to be one of the foremost scientfic minds in the Federation. She is also earning recognition for resurrecting the field of Cryptozoology, which had been almost ignored by the mainstream scientific community for over 200 years. She doesn't have a permanent home, and travels from place to place, looking for anything that intrigues her.
As an interesting side note, in 2379 she killed a man in cold blood for threatening a close friend of hers (a journalist) with grievous bodily harm if he published a story he was working on. She does not feel particularly guilty about the incident, but tries to keep it hidden due to how it could appear when taken out of context.
Family
Acadia has no family to speak of. She was left on the steps of an Orphanage in Cardiff, Earth, in early 2353.
