Civilians

Civilians play an important role in Starfleet. Many civilian specialists across a number of fields work on occasion with Starfleet personnel as a Mission Specialist. In other cases, extra ship and station duties, such as running the ship's lounge, are outsourced to a civilian contract. Additionally, a number of civilians of many backgrounds call Federation Starbases home and while they do not work for Starfleet, they do play an important role.

A Bartender is responsible for serving drinks to the crew, and for keeping the bar clean and tidy. Bartenders also serve as a sympathetic ear and a shoulder to lean on. They are someone that will listen to the problems of the crew and try to offer advice or an anicdote. They can have a major impact on the ships moral.

A Chaplain is responsible for assisting the crew in their religious, moral, and other problems. They can serve much the same purpose as a bartender, minus the alcohol. A Chaplain must be well versed in the multitude of religions that one may find in the Federation. They attempt to guide the crew along the path of their chosen faith. They also oversee any relgious ceremony that takes place on the ship, if they are qualified.

A Chef/Cook is responsible for making delicious, or in some cases not so delicious, meals for the crew and visitors. They can be trained in various styles of cooking and should be capable of making any number meals to suit the crews palate.

A Waitress/Waiter delivers food and drink to the patrons. Every bar, every restaurant needs some form of friendly service to help the crew relax. A warm smile who brings your food or drinks, to chat when somebody is alone or down. The Waiter/Waitress are these people.

A Civilian Specialist is a civilian contracter. Many of the Federation's top minds and specialists in different fields aren't in Starfleet, they are civilians. These people often venture into space aboard Starships and other facilities. They maybe Doctors, Scientist, or even Engineers. They use some of the science labs, when possible, to do their work while not interfering in operations of the ship or facility. Starfleet's primary role is exploration, and having these people on board really helps that endeavor.
