Kegan Schroeder
Kegan Marcus Schroeder
Rank: Petty Officer Second Class
Position: Yeoman
Appearance
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 145 lbs
Kegan is not tall by any stretch of the imagination, though he is well proportioned for his size. Neither overly muscular nor overly thin, he can none the less strike an occasional imposing or dashing figure.
One physical quality of note is his limp, a reminder of the injuries which pulled him out of a promising career in security and placed him on the administrative path. He carries a walking stick with him at all times, one which conceals a surprise for the
unwary.
Personality
Kegan is genial but serious. He takes both himself and his career seriously because he is of the opinion that without him, starships falter.
He strives to be professional and efficient at his job, whatever it may be, and while he wouldn’t say that makes him the best – you can bet he is thinking it.
Notes: Kegan currently has 9 years of service to Starfleet under his belt.
Strengths & Weaknesses: Kegan’s greatest strength is an unerring mind for organization. He can sort and collate incredible amounts of information. This is surprising since he did not start his life in Starfleet on the administrative path, but the retraining has shown where his true, if hidden, talent lies.
His weaknesses are more complex. He is prone to bouts of depression and inactivity, especially during long periods without duty. He spends long hours alone, though he craves human contact – the dichotomy only feeds the depression and inactivity if it is not closely monitored.
He is hard on himself because of the injury he sustained, spending hours training and working the affected area. He thinks it is a severe liability, but because he works so hard to make it an asset- it is only in his mind that the limp is crippling.
He can be prone to fits of superiority, especially in the face of the more incompetent of Starfleet’s officers. It seems these days every officer thinks him or herself an expert at every field, and while he admires their spunk, it just isn’t possible. It is far more likely that an enlisted man, with fewer years needed to devote to redundant training, would be a master of multiple disciplines.
Ambitions: Kegan wants to advance through the ranks and ratings until he eventually makes Warrant Officer training. How this plays out against his original goal of pursing the Master at Arms rate is anyone’s guess.
His only other ambition is to be in a position where the senior staff of a ship imagines him their equal. Often Officers overlook the hard work done by enlisted men, and the experience which makes their lives easier. His goal is to challenge that perception until the officers realize how lost they would be without the enlisted men and women.
Hobbies and Interests
Major - Reading, Writing, Classic/Blues Guitar, Kempo Karate, Boxing, Shin kendo, Swimming, Singing, Outdoors activates. He is quite artistic, dabbling in a variety of media. His minor hobbies are both many and varied.
Nicknames: Gun, Keeg, Keg and the use of his middle name, Marcus, are prevalent. Others may arise
Languages: Federation Terranglo, Vulcan, Romulan and a Smattering of Klingon
History
Kegan Marcus Schroeder was born to Hunter and Zareeva Schroeder in San Francisco in August 2360. He had a relatively normal childhood, participating in a wide variety of sports, arts and activities which masked but fed his dual isolationist and social natures. This continued into his teen years when he developed an interest in Starfleet. His particular interest lie along the enlisted path, which while disappointing to his family, at least put him squarely in a solid occupation.
After the Dominion war, Starfleet was in dire need of personnel trained in security procedures. Kegan attended 12 weeks of Starfleet basic with an additional eight weeks of Starfleet security training. He graduated with honors, much to the surprise of his parents and family, who had always pegged him as somewhat of a socialite and underachiever.
His first assignment came in 2378 after an extended stay working diplomatic security at Starfleet Academy. USS Manticore was an aging Reliant class ship with a strong history of service to the Federation. During his first tour Manticore was attacked and boarded by pirates operating out of the Triangle. A duranium support beam came loose during the fighting and sheared his leg off above the knee. Federation medicine being what it is, his leg was replaced with an artificial one which looks and feels real. However, the first graft didn’t take, and the subsequent rejection and need for a second surgery left Kegan with a slight limp. He has since carried a walking stick, which he also believes makes him look more distinguished.
Unfortunately the surgeries and subsequent rehab left him unable to perform his duties in security and dashed his hopes of entering the Master at Arms rate. Given time to recover, he might have been able to pass muster, but he was restless and falling unto an ever deeper depression.
He took matters into his own hands and requested immediate cross training into a field that would put him back in space, and the request was granted. He was tested once again for his aptitudes, and given a variety of choices for cross training. The marks on his tests showed him that he had a gift for organization, so he opted for administrative specialist with an eye toward someday entering Warrant Officer’s training.
For the moment he has worked his way up to the Yeoman Rate, and is finding that while it doesn’t necessarily compare to his life long dream of protecting the innocent citizens of Starfleet, every Captain seems to need a bodyguard. And honestly, he’s a damn good yeoman.
