Personality

Nathan possesses a blunt and to the point personality. It has tempered somewhat in his later years but it can still get him into and also out of trouble on a regular basis. While he was once very popular with both men and women, he now prefers to distance himself from others. He believes that this helps him to make more impartial and necessary decisions as a Commanding Officer. He is fiercely protective of all life and believes it shouldn't be wasted. His job requires him to be diplomatic but this is sometimes a struggle for Nathan.

Hobbies and Interests

Thanks to the holodeck Nathan is still very active in sporting events including swimming, zero-g football and archery. He's also a very good singer - but only in the shower.

History

Nathan is the youngest of a large blended family. He has six older half brothers and sisters. His siblings went onto one of three careers, Allan and Tracey joined the Marines, Penelope and Scott the family business in freighting while Nathan followed Brian and Melissa into Starfleet.

Nathan's parents are both still alive and well. Robert Geiger was a Starfleet Commander in the diplomatic core before retiring to spend more time with his wife and raise their children. Angela is a successful businesswoman, running an independent freighting company, which has expanded with the help of her adult children.

Nathan's family life was quite eventful. He lived on the S.S. Scarlet Rose his mother's freighter. He was home schooled by his father. He wasn't the last to leave the family nest but he was very desperate to do so. While he had traveled through space before it was always on the same shipping lines. He needed to see more. The best way to do this he decided was to join Starfleet. While his grades weren't stellar like Melissa and Brian had achieved, they were acceptable.

Nathan graduated the Academy 2366 and was assigned to the USS Hawking as an Ensign in Security and Tactical. In 2369 after an incident involving a Klingon diplomatic delegation Nathan received a reprimand. He was transferred to the USS Hercules, a science and surveying vessel and told not to expect a promotion anytime soon. It also happened to be the same vessel Melissa was serving on as a Lieutenant Commander - she was on the fast track for command.

Despite the giant setback in his career Nathan proved to be a hit with his peers and was quickly climbing the social ladder once more. Melissa had hoped her success would provide a good example to her younger half brother. She was sorely mistaken. It would take her death to change Nathan's carefree ways.

An unknown contagion infected several members of the Hercules crew including Melissa. Many were seriously injured by the infected crew. Those infected later died due to unknown complications. Nathan was forced to stun Melissa but due to what was reported as a phaser 'malfunction' she was disintegrated. Nathan was devastated. Even though he had saved most of the bridge crew including the Captain he had killed his sister. He received a commendation and a court martial for his actions (followed by a civil court case for murder, later dropped to manslaughter and eventually found not guilty) and granted a leave of absence to grieve.

When he returned to Starfleet the change in his behaviour was extreme. Nathan threw himself into his career and returned to the Academy for Command training. He was reassigned to the USS Mantis and quickly moved up the ranks. When the Commanding Officer was promoted to a desk job, Nathan stepped up to the new challenge of running a ship.

On 2380 during an enforced shoreleave (enforced by his crew) the small civilian transport that Nathan traveled on was taken over by an unknown group of men who had been acting as fellow passengers. They killed the crew and picked off all of the passengers save for Nathan and a woman, Janaia Saddler. He later learned that she was their intended target. By the time the bad guys were dealt to (see dead), they found themselves alone and adrift on the transport. It took Nathan's crew on the Mantis a fortnight to realise their Commander was missing, locate and rescue him. Nathan offered his protection to Janaia but she turned him down. Nathan left her on Starbase 50 so Rear Admiral Eliza Speight could help her disappear.

The Mantis was decommissioned in 2382 and Nathan took a year off before being assigned to the nova class vessel, USS Archimedes.

In 2384 an old friend Jakob Turner returned to haunt Nathan. He used an alien device on him, a necklace which stripped Nathan of his memories after the age of twenty-six. This essentially left the twenty-six year old version of Nathan running around in his forty year old body. This alarming change lasted for one whole mission during which time Jake uses his hold over Nathan to stowaway on Archimedes and young Nathan took advantage of then Lieutenant Serenity Phillips.

Nathan was court martialed in I Fought the Law due to his actions during Flight of the Valkyries. He was found guilty, stripped of his position and responsibilities of Task Group Commanding Officer and demoted to the rank of Commander. As further punishment he was placed in temporary command of Starbase 50 until it was handed back to the marines and his brother Brigadier General Allan Bresnick took over.

The beginning of 2386 saw Harry delivered into Nathan's care. Nathan is listed on the birth certificate as being the boy's father. It is revealed that Harry was a genetically engineered baby that Janaia Saddler was carrying when she met Nathan in 2380. For reasons only known to her she entrusted the boy to the man who once saved her life.
