Security/Tactical

The Security/Tactical Department incorporates Security and Tactical duties.

The Chief Security/Tactical Officer is the head of the department and responsible for the overall safety of both the ship and the crew. She or he not only manages all Security and Tactical Officers, but is also responsible for ensuring that all other departments are complying with Starfleet Regulations. He or she is also the primary tactical officer in combat situations and the primary investigator of any security breaches.

The Master-at-Arms is responsible for military discipline and good order aboard the ship, and reports to both the Chief Security/Tactical Officer and the Executive Officer. The position of Master-at-Arms requires specific skills of physical strength, unimpeachable reputation, and the ability to instill respect in fellow crew, and thus she or he is usually a decorated and senior enlisted officer.

A Security Officer is a member of Starfleet Security and entrusted with enforcing Starfleet Regulations to all Starfleet personnel. She or he is responsible for ensuring the safety of the crew and Federation citizens, both on-ship and during away missions. Ground combat and small unit training is common for Security Officers. Security Officers also operate the Brig and are responsible for guard duty and prisoner transport.

A Tactical Officer is responsible for maintaining and operating the ship's offensive and defensive capabilities. He or she provides tactical advice and operates the tactical station during combat situations, and is required to keep current with the latest technological capabilities of all known alien races, be they friend or foe.
