Vilgi Morr
Rank: Ensign
Position: Stellar Cartographer
Appearance
Species: Bolian
Gender: Male
Born: 9 May 2354
Hair: None
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 101kg
Blue-green skin tone, his height and weight give him a short chunky look, more like short blue doorman than a scientist. Appearance wise he likes casual all most exclusively, even on duty he’ll chose a jumpsuit over standard uniform unless the situation calls for it, e.g. meetings, inspections, serving on the bridge.
Personality
Vilgi's personality seems to show two extremes, mostly he's highly sociable likes to be with and around people both when working, he like to throw ideas off people, pick up ideas and twist them, some of his statements can be inflammatory at times, its not intentional he’s just prepared to voice opinions that no one else will and likes to say it like it is.
Ambitions: Head up a science department aboard ship and to produce the most detailed stellar cartographic map of his area of operations.
Hobbies and Interests
Vilgi likes to relax around people, and spends most of his free time in the lounge or mess, moving between different groups as they come and go. He also likes to keep fit by using a hiking program he first used with his parents. On the rare occasion he wants time alone he uses a program recreating a fishing lake on Bolarus IX.
History
Vilgi came into the world on Starbase 34 in 2350 his Mother Ani in starfleet exobiology; his Father Hano is private surveyor. Because of this he spent childhood moving between mother and father. Despite the career paths of his parents took them in different directions they kept in close contact and Vilgi was loved by both parents which helped stabilize what could have been a traumatic period.
With his father he lived on a small three man ship which his father used to chart areas of space, which varied between we known and occasionally the unknown, which were then passed on to Starfleet, taught how to manage a ship, to fly and, understand sensor readings. While when living with his mother on the USS Corona, he was able to be around people his own age and was taught the standard grade school curriculum.
Twice a year, every year, he holidayed with his father, mother, Father's co-wife Mena and her daughters, Lesaa, Miree. They did almost everything together during these two weeks, apart from the times Vilgi and Hano spent fishing at a quiet lake.
When the USS Corrona was decommissioned Vilgi's Mother left Starfleet, both him his mother and his father had a long talk about what to do next, they decided that his mother would join his father as a private surveyor, while Vilgi stayed on Bolarus IX finished education which culminated in a university education studying Stellar Cartography, Vilgi re-joined parents to do his final thesis, and spent two months conducting a survey of a nebula in the area, it also gave him time to talk over his options and after graduation decided to go in to Starfleet.
Starfleet Service Record
As he already held a degree he entered at the enlisted level and after basic training was placed on the USS Dirk a Sabre-Class Starship, tasked with patrol along the Breen boarder, not his first choice however he did adapt well and applied himself to producing a detailed, accurate, map of the patrol areas.
This proved useful eighteen months into the tour, with an anxious captain wanting any edge over Breen privateer ships, which seemed to move through a rather unstable area of the border at will, while Starfleet ships were bogged down in the unpredictable subspace eddies.
Vilgi presented a modal, generated by gathering and analysing mountains of data, for tracking and predicting these eddies, this form the basis for a tactical manoeuvre which enabled the Dirk to stop a Breen privateer ship, Vilgi was allowed on the bridge for the manoeuvre, tasked with feeding the modal to operations and tactical to help them to place the ship and then stop the Breen in their tracks. They did turning the ship away with minimal damage to the Dirk and no loss off life on either side something he is still immensely proud of to this day.
On a personal note, the Dirk very quickly felt like home, mainly because of its size, small ship, close nit crew. Vilgi’s social nature meant he knew most of the crew within a few months, most of the people he ate or drank with were acquaintances, the two people he would call close friends were regular contacts through work, Lt. j.g. Lekar a Vulcan science officer specializing in space geology and Crewman Mhiana a sensor systems specialist.
During his stint the chief science officer noted a talent for making conclusions based on evidence, planning how to proceed, and involving others as he did, by the end of the tour he was ranked a crewman and his CO recommended him to the academy.
Relocated to earth he spent two years at the academy, as he already had three years service in Starfleet and obtained his degree prior to entering, he underwent the officer training course, which was full of co-ordinating, people management, ships procedures, and things like that. The scientist in him helped immensely, reading up on the theory and then putting it into practice. Although it was noted that he tended take a more involved role and directed things as he went. Therefore he was graded average by his instructors and assessors probably make department head or senior staff but not command, Vilgi was fine with this.
On graduation Vilgi was assigned back to the USS Dirk with a new mission, a survey mission. Under a new captain and a new department head, a former friend, Lt. Lekar.
They spent the next three years following up on a Galaxy-Class, making a full survey of a large planetary system, the Doradus system, consisting of no less than twelve planetary body's along with associated satellites. Their already was a Stellar Cartography map of the system. Vilgi wanted the map to be the best and spent most of the time going through the data with a fine tooth comb, building up a highly detailed map of the area. This did help him to make a determination that the asteroid field was once a thirteen planet, and that the gravitational forces of the system were moving the field towards a planet, the only problem was the planets inhabitants were pre-warp but had a highly sensitive space defence system. Not wanting to risk accidental contact the Captain ordered his departments to come up with a solution, Vilgi, Lekar and Mhiana came up with a solution, they designated a safe distance and then set up a series of sensor probes as markers. During his stay he was also assigned to a number of away teams as a science specialist, and led his first it may only have been a follow up to a lifeless rock to pick up the results of an experiment, but to Vilgi it was a huge gesture of trust.
